Sustainable Design: Idea Critique

Two ideas proposed:

1. Eco & Educational Toy Brand
- beanie baby ideas of collectables with dentities
- targeting kids in primary schools
- catching and educating at the young age is more likely to be effective in a sustainability context
- collectable; gets the community involved, sharing culture
- toys made of environmentally sustainable materials
- a series of personified toys that comes with a name and booklet - e.g. a reusable water bottle or a light bulb, which in its little description booklet same remember to turn me off when you leave a room so i can sleep
- aims to reduce carbon foot print

 2. UN 2030 agenda of 17 SDG's
- rebrand of icons to appeal to a student body (16-25 y/o)
- liberal audience that have time and youthful momentum to advocate change
- a separate publication for primary school kids with stuff they can do
- a publication outlining their goals
- a series of postcards with the unique design, sharing culture, can send them globally
- a website outlining all the goalds with links to documentaries, agendas, celebrity involvement, things on in your area to get involved it etc
- educational

Feedback
  • Idea 2 has more potential and you seem more engaged and passionate about the potential of this campaign
  • get rid of the primary school and focus it on the 16-25 y/o bracket
  • Instead of a publication and postcards the publication could have the postcards inside and are detachable which can then be sent and shared - international promotion
  • the point of the SDGs is that they are completely international and global - almost every country is involved so there are no boundaries for the scope this campaign should reach, concentrating on this age bracket will allow for secondary schools, collages and universities around the world to have a united agenda and purpose to hold these world leaders to account
Main Goals
  • The education sector is the perfect audience to target
  • They are in the institution to learn and youthful voices love to overt change and follow a crowd
  • It's international qualities will make an all-sharing campaign (which, in light of Trump and Brexit are hugely appealing for young people who were silenced in these political results)
  • The power of creativity to affect change

Rationale & what to explore:
- make the SDGs more approachable to a younger generation
- the existing design is although neutral, very corporate
how can a website be more attractive to this target generation
- primary research: what attracts young people?
