External Visit and Primary Research

Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Gallery

We visited the Hepworth in Wakefield and the YSP in order to be inspired by existing art forms. The idea was to try and find lettering in everything we saw, whether that was a stature or the bench next to it. To go somewhere knew, using our senses and stimulate our creativity to indulge in the natural world and the possibilities we can spot as a designer.

Below are my recordings from the day, including pictures I took and my interpretation of the lettering and typography I found, whether it was actually meant to be there or not.

I looked at:
- negative space
- the direction of line
- curves
- where things joined
- shadows
- contrast
- structure
- SHAPE (of everything, however small of big)
