Existing Wayfinding systems- LCC

Objective systems:

LCC Wayfinding System - Pentagram

LCC's previous wayfinding system was extremely temperamental, and full of photocopies which were unsustainable. The brief was to come up with a system that had the ability to change, as they needed to be able to change room names and redecorate. It also had to acknowledge their four different buildings. As the collage had plans to move, it had to be cost-effective, and unfortunately, couldn't take inspiration from the architecture of the buildings as it serious lacked artistic characteristics.

They came up with a solution that was adaptable as wanted, and managed to incorporate the collage's key principals with a dedication to 'making' and physical design.

Outcomes:

  • signage could be fixed onto any wall
  • uses a consistent background plate
  • the plate was made from perforated powder-coated aluminium, which was clear and helped visitors identify and distinguish what was signage
  • directional signs and room types could be screwed onto of these plates
  • the collage's four main areas was colour coded for clear distinction
  • Type used Helvetica which is consistent and clear
  • Helvetica also drew the linkage to the collage and UAL's identity
