Within my research into soaps presence in popular culture, it was evident that the bathroom plays a strong role in the ideas of privacy and sexualisation. Two of the most famous horror/ thriller films - Psycho and American Psycho - both include notorious bathroom scenes. As such, I thought I would explore the idea of transforming some of my photographs into a kind of 'still' from a hypothetical horror film.
Inspired from the inverted photographs of my typographic investigation into liquid soap
Editing the photo's of soap objects and bathroom appliances presents the significants of femininity or sexualisation of being stripped in a bathroom or shower, and the vulnerability associated with this.

created this darker version as the vibrancy enables the scene to look more contrasting, as if under NEON light. The complementary colours of green and red enhances the visual aesthetic. |
I then used ink and soap to create a sort of bloody bathroom scene, inspired from Hitchcock's Psycho, and Mary Harron's American Psycho, exploring the aesthetics of the horror genre. By editing the photos on Photoshop, I wanted to produce a sort of screen shot from the films. The images focus on blacks and reds which heavily emit a dark and gloomy aura, and reds which represent danger and anxiety for the viewer. Additionally, I added this grainy texture to the photographs to link it to the old-aesthetic style of these films.
These grundy looking prints present great contrast, accentuating the vibrancy of the red and thus the viewers sense of danger or increasing respiration rate
