Brief:
Background considerations:
Depop is essentially a forum for re-selling up-cycled and second-hand clothes, which in turn reduces the unnecessary waste of garments with toxic dyes and plastic. The rise of Depop deters the next generation from having strong brand identities and broadens their conscious consumer choices. Second hand clothes are often cheaper, so students love the idea of getting something new that not everyone else may have. Fast fashion is detrimental both socially and environmentally to the planet, through its huge carbon footprint and the social issues of outsourcing for maximum profits. It has become a colossal force in both bringing about climate change and in the growing disparity and inequality between the East and the West.
Danielle Mass, Depop’s 64th in the world seller, approached me to brand her page and expanding company. Depop offers events around the country for their top sellers to have stalls, so this branding must be adaptable across

Outlets like these are a great way for a bottom-up approach to tackle the greater issue at hand. Anyone with a smartphone now can be their own boss,
utilising the resources ready available to them within fashion and the
creativity around it. Buying and selling used clothing is a more sustainable
approach to ethically politicising this industry, and as it grows in popularity
it is only the transnational companies at the top in charge of this
exploitation of people and land that will have to react.
My investigation into COP2 means I have a large contextual
understanding of the importance of recycling clothing and the detrimental
impacts of fast fashion. In this way, the brand needs to speak to the target
audience in a loud tone of voice as it must separate itself from the rest. It needs to
focus on the social and eco benefits people are contributing to when they make
conscious decisions to buy from her and not the high street labels.
