Video Intro

Grange Hill:

similar to the stop-motion collage style of Dr Me, the Grange Hill comic strip animation intro video is an interesting reference for creating a fun introduction for the 'day in the life' video. Using the old style, with fun and silly imagery could be a funky way of engaging the first years.

Story-boarding is a good way to generate and gage an idea of how the imagery will look in sequence. Scanning and moving the images around could create an engaging intro that captures the viewers attention.

Bright colours and a funky aesthetic again, playful and vibrant. Could be an interesting approach to re-create the patterning and graphics in a more modern and applicable way, maybe keeping with LCA colours or on top of a video, similarly to the style here.

The Office:

The office is a lot more basic and dull in its aesthetic, which mimics its satirical nature of the dark humour, this could be an opposite approach that could aid the humour within the video, however there is a need to make it advertise the course. However, it could be a successful approach to take scenes from the walk into collage to put into context how the day begins as such.

Informed idea for intro:
  • stop motion of someone going into uni, from outside LCA to sitting side the graphics studio (pictures maybe instead of a consistent video?)
  • could be decorated with the drawn lines and squiggles
  • this incorporates favourited parts from all of the researched intros, into a relevant application
After Filming:

After our idea changed it was decided to keep the intro simple and effective, similar to the office intro. Something that would set the scene, and the decision to title the short film 'Deadline Day' sets the context in itself. As such, filming the outside of LCA with effective bold, clear text that is neutral sets the tone effectively as the two stories contrast from someone who is more organised to someone who is cramming. The neutral type will allow for the distinction, and convey the notion that 'deadline day' doesn't have to be so bad if you're on top of things.

Final Intro:

Applying the style of 'The Office' to LCA and Leeds.
